This unique six-month program, running from May through October, is for students currently in grades 5-11. New apprentice applications are limited to grades 5-8. Apprentices meet several times a week to plant, maintain and harvest the farm’s educational gardens and work with Farmer Jonathan in the production gardens. They also care for our rabbits, goats, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. The work is challenging and incredibly rewarding—the program includes many special events such as Ambler Farm Day, a farm-to-table soup and salad experience, a bonfire and more!

How to Apply
This is an extraordinary hands-on program. First, apply for the Apprentice Program. Parents and prospective apprentices must attend one of the open houses, which will take place on Sundays, March 7th and 14th at 10:30am, Noon, or 1:30pm. The Open House will help prospective apprentices understand the nature of, and the expectations for, the program to ensure it is a good fit. If a child is not able to attend either open house, a separate meeting must be scheduled with Stacey Valimont. The Open House dates are the deadline for new apprentices to express interest in the program. Complete the New Apprentice Application.

Selection Process
Program slots will be filled first by returning apprentices and their siblings, followed by lottery results. On April 12th, should there be interest beyond program capacity, a lottery will be held to select new apprentices. The lottery will be overseen by Executive Director Tim Burt, Director of Programming Stacey Valimont, as well as several Board Members.
