Summer Squash

Plant roughly 12 inches apart and pick almost everyday.  You need more than one plant to get fruit.  You may also plant in succession for a continuous supply.  Remove dying or diseased leaves and put in the trash.

Tender, will not survive frost. Pick squash when they are small for best flavor. Male blossoms typically precede females by about a week. Females have a bulge at the base of the blossom, an early stage of the fruit forming.

Zucchini · Zucchino Da Fiore (Zucchini Flowers) A variety of zucchini that produces a large number of flowers (squash blossoms), which are popular in Italian cuisine. They are often stuffed with cheese, breaded, and fried for an appetizer, or sliced into ribbons on salads and casseroles. This variety will set fruit if the flowers are pollinated, and the fruits are perfectly edible. But if you want only flowers, cover the plants with row cover to prevent insect pollination and pick the blossoms every day or two. They are at their best first thing in the morning when they just begin to open. Plant is a runner (like most which produce many flowers) so give 5 feet or so between hills.
