Volunteering side by side has a way of turning to-do lists into inside jokes and genuine connection. Over many years, Amy Palma and Laurie Musilli’s friendship has become as strong as their support of the Farm.
Their families have grown up alongside Ambler since 2015. Laurie joined the concessions crew the same year her son Tony, then a fifth grader, became an Apprentice after two summers at Ambler’s Summer Camp. Now 20 and a college junior, Tony still carries those farm roots with him. Around the same time, Amy’s daughters, Maggie and Carolyn, began baking apple pies with their Girl Scout troops and lending a hand at Ambler Farm Day. Maggie went on to become an apprentice, mentor, and volunteer with the Buddy Program. Amy and Laurie’s husbands, Jeff and Dom, can often be spotted pitching in when an extra set of hands is needed, making the Palma and Musilli families a true part of Ambler’s extended family.
Over the last 10+ years, Amy and Laurie have donated countless hours to Ambler Farm Day, Fright Night, the Maple Sugaring Program, Colonial Field Trips, Bee Keeping, Agricultural support, Summer Camp, the Apprentice Program and enticed other local non-profits to support the farm with donated sweet treats and organized clean-ups.
Through it all, their friendship has been the constant. They swap vegetable-growing advice with Farmer Jonathan, know how to anticipate and fix a last-minute scramble, and simply enjoy the chance to work side by side. Amy likes to joke that Laurie is the “true hero” and she’s just along for the ride – but anyone who has watched them in action knows it’s their teamwork that makes the magic happen.
We’re incredibly thankful to have these two forces behind many of Ambler’s beloved programs + events. Thank you, Amy and Laurie, for all you do to help make this place, the place.
