Homeschool Programs

Welcome Homeschool Families! 

The following programs are structured specifically for your whole family. All of our programs (except Maple Sugaring in February) have access to our 20′ by 40′ lunch tent so you can enjoy lunch either before or after your program at our beautiful farm. The lunch tent is a great place for your kids to run around with others! 

We offer morning and afternoon programs. Each program can accommodate 42 families so you can bring your entire homeschool group. We will put you into groups on the day of your program. We generally have 3 groups of 14 families rotating during each program. Families register individually: one registration fee covers the whole family. Please note that the Colonial Program in November is a full-day program (3.5 hours) and includes a half-hour lunch period in the program schedule.

Fall on the Farm

Join us for our Fall on the Farm program designed for homeschooled families. This field trip experience includes: 

• Guided animal visits to learn about the importance of farm animals and their adaptations including our turkeys, chickens and goats.
• Families will visit the pumpkin patch to harvest their very own sugar pumpkin (small) to take home! Two pumpkins per family with additional pumpkins available for purchase at $5 each. 
• In addition to the tractor ride around the farm, the haymaze is an exciting activity for the young ones in your family.
• Your family will learn the basics of pickling and make their very own pickles to take home. Two pints per family are provided in the registration fee. Additional pints available for $5 each while supplies last.

Please note: This is not a drop-off program.

Fee: $50 per family (Includes 2 pumpkins +2 jars of pickles)

The Colonial Experience: Preparing for Winter

Join us for our Colonial Experience: Preparing for Winter program designed for homeschooled families. This field trip experience includes:

• Food Preservation Colonists spent an extraordinary amount of time preserving food for the winter. Students will learn and participate in those processes, including salting, pickling, drying and jellying.
• Colonial Animals and Community Animals played an important role in the survival of colonists. Students will learn about the role of chickens, oxen, pigs, and sheep by visiting the many animals at our farm. Colonists survived by supporting each other in a community. Students will learn about the importance of community and family jobs.
• Colonial Cooking Participants will make a colonial bread and learn about the many ingredients that colonists relied on for cooking. And of course, we will need to sample our colonial breads!
• Colonial Crops Through hands-on activities, students will learn about the three main crops. Activities will include pressing apples, shucking corn, and grinding grain.

Please note: this is not a drop off program. This full-day program (3.5 hours) includes a half-hour lunch period in the program schedule.

Maple Sugaring Program

Join us for our Maple Sugaring program designed for homeschooled families. Children of all ages and their parents will be active participants in this one-of-a-kind educational program, which consists of two stations:

• Families will learn about the history of maple sugaring, the science of sap, sugar maple identification, how to tap a tree, and how maple syrup is made at Ambler Farm in our outdoor Sugar Shack.
• Families will also bake corn muffins from scratch and sample their treats while taste-testing maple syrup in our Carriage Barn. It’s sure to be an enlightening and delicious field trip!

Spring on the Farm

Join us for our Spring on the Farm program designed for homeschooled families. Children of all ages and their parents will be active participants in this one-of-a-kind educational program learning about the importance of honey bees. Meet Ambler Farm’s honey bees in our observation hive, sample honey + learn about pollination, parts of the plant and the current threats to the honey bee population. Enjoy a hayride around the farm to see what’s growing, plant in our gardens +  meet our farm animals, with a focus on rabbits and their adaptations.
